Rich tributes were paid to Kargil martyrs on Wednesday to mark Kargil Vijay Divas. Army Service Corp & College Commandant Lieutenant General Vipan Gupta led the homage in Bengaluru, laying a wreath in remembrance of the over 500 Indian soldiers killed in the 1999 battle. They died fighting to recover Indian outposts illegally occupied by Pakistani soldiers.
A Defence Ministry release said a large number of dignitaries and members of the Army Wives Welfare Association gathered at the War Memorial to pay their respects.
In the gallantry awards given to the heroes after the battle, one Maha Vir Chakra, three Vir Chakras and two Sena Medals were awarded to ASC personnel.
