New Delhi: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has released the story of the GST's making titled The GST Saga: A Story of Extraordinary National Ambition. An official release from the Press Information Bureau showed the Finance Minister releasing the book, in tow with revenue secretary Hasmukh Adhia and Vanaja Sarna, the Chairperson for Central Board of Excise and Customs.

The release added that there was a need for the public to know the story of how GST has evolved, its timeline and its different stakeholders and how it eventually culminated in its inauguration in the central hall of the Parliament of India.

The book tracks the journey right from the ideation of the Kelkar Task Force report in 2003 to July 1 2017.

It also includes features on the dates when SGST (state GST) laws were enacted in the 31 states.

An interesting read will be on how fitment rates and the setup of GSTN, the IT backbone, came into being.

There is no word yet on how to lay hands on a copy of the book, though.
