Shikhar Dhawan and Cheteshwar Pujara scored contrasting centuries on the first day of the first Test match against Sri Lanka to take India to 399 for 3 and give the team control of the game right from the start.

India dominate day one against Sri Lanka.

India had two centurions on day one of the first Test as they took control of the game. Centuries from Shikhar Dhawan and Cheteshwar Pujara took India 399 for the loss of three wicket at stumps at Galle. Ajinkya Rahan was unbeaten on 39 at stumps. Dhawan missed his maiden ton by 10 runs after he had played a terrific innings of 190 runs. He punished the sorry Sri Lanka bowlers by picking up boundaries at will. He scored runs at a strike rate of more than 100. Pujara, on the other hand, played a slow innings but was unbeaten at 144 at stumps..
