The Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested four persons here on Monday on the charge of indulging in cheating people by promising them jobs in the railways against payment of money.
S.V. Mallikarjuna, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, South Western Railway, told presspersons here on Tuesday that the arrested have been handed over to the local police and investigation is in progress.
The arrested persons are Anand P.S., Ramesh Narayan Saki, Sachin B. and Manohar S.V.; and Anand and Saki are railway employees.
While Anand works as senior commercial assistant at the Chikkajajur Railway Station under the Mysore division, Saki is a safai karamchari at the Central Hospital. Sachin and Manohar are residents of Mysuru, he said.
Mr. Mallikarjuna said that the RPF staff arrested the culprits from the premises of the Central Hospital of the South Western Railway, while they were trying to conduct a fake medical test for some of the job aspirants.
Anand had called those he had promised jobs against payment of money to the hospital premises and managed to conduct the fake medical test with the help of Saki and two of his associates.
During this time, some of the hospital staff became suspicious and informed the RPF. The RPF personnel immediately rushed to the hospital premises and arrested the culprits.
The RPF staff have also recovered ₹ 17,000 in cash from the arrested. It is learnt that the culprits have collected nearly ₹ 6 lakh from the aspirants promising them Group C and D category jobs.
The job aspirants are from Mysuru, Chamarajnagar and Hassan districts. Anand was one of the accused in a railway-related case in Arsikere earlier. At that time disciplinary action was initiated against him. A report has been sent seeking Anand and Saki’s suspension, he said.
However, Mr. Mallikarjuna refused to divulge more information about the possibilities of the involvement of the local railway officials or even the hospital staff citing that the reason that the local police have not yet completed their inquiry. He has requested the public not to fall prey to such elements and lose money.
All recruitment-related processes in the Railways are done online. Job aspirants have to be careful about such persons and inform the authorities concerned if anyone approaches them with promises of getting them jobs in the Railways, Mr. Mallikarjuna said.
