The All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (Amma) has sought the intervention of Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi in convening a special session of the Assembly to discuss the impasse in MBBS admission.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, AIADMK leader A. Anbalagan said that as in the past, the government had failed to secure 50% seats in private medical colleges. The government, instead of adopting a resolution in the Assembly mandating private institutes to part with 50% seats to government-sponsored students, held backroom talks with the management.
The government’s failure to get 50% seats had spoiled the chances of several meritorious students, he added.
Mr. Anbalagan said the party had requested the Lt.Governor to convene a special session of the Assembly to discuss the the issue. .
The Lt. Governor had the power to convene a special session, he said.
Protest plan
The party would organise a demonstration in front of the Assembly on Wednesday to condemn the attitude of the government towards medical aspirants. The AIADMK (Amma) would seek the support of parents, students and like-minded organisations to make the protest a success, Mr. Anbalagan said.
