Pakistani diplomats abducted in Afghanistan rescued

Two Pakistani diplomats who were abducted in were recovered in an operation conducted by security forces, President Ashraf Ghani told Pakistani officials in on Wednesday.

The two officials of the Consulate General of Pakistan in Jalalabad were kidnapped last month when they were travelling from Jalalabad to Torkham.

Ambassador to Pakistan Omar Zakhilwal had assured the Pakistani government that Afghanistan's security institutions and intelligence agencies were looking for the abducted officials.

President Ghani personally phoned Pakistan's Charge d'Affaires in to inform the mission that security forces had recovered the officials, a Foreign Office statement here said.

Subsequently, the two officials were handed over to the Pakistani Embassy in by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They were expected to return to Pakistan soon.
