A woman who has been evading the police for five years in a land-grab case has been arrested.
In a press release, the city police said Subbulakshmi, wife of former Additional Director General of Police Thukkaiandi, was arrested after complaints of land grabbing to the tune of ₹10 crore in 2012. Tamilarasi, who had signed forged documents to sell the land, went absconding following the arrest. The city police had been searching for her in various places like Tiruchi, Puducherry, Coimbatore and Nilakkottai.
On July 22, they arrested her from her daughter’s house in Nilakottai.
In her confession, Tamilarasi told the police said that the police officer’s wife was her relative and she had signed documents as she was promised that “everything would be taken care of.”
The woman also informed the police that she was told that five grounds in Panaiyur abetting the city were left without protection for over 40 years and there would not be any problem in forging the documents.
Once she learnt that the officer’s wife was arrested, she went into the hiding.
Tamilarasi, however, was released on bail by the court on account of her age on the condition that she should appear before the investigating officer whenever required.
With her arrest, the city police said they had made a breakthrough and that a charge sheet would be filed in court soon.
