more-in

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) convened a meeting on Tuesday to discuss how to celebrate Ganesha festival this year in a eco-friendly way.

Participants agreed that after celebrating Ganesha and Gowri festivals, devotees should ensure that idols are immersed only at the designated spot. The Board decided to give advertisements in local newspapers in co-ordination with non-governmental organisations to create awareness among the people.

A decision was also taken to ensure that wet waste, such as flowers, fruits, banana stems and mango leaves, and idols are separated before being given to mobile vans for suitable disposal.

The meeting was chaired by the KSPCB chief and was attended by all zonal officials, senior environmental officials and district regional officials.
