Sally Pearson has been confirmed in Australia’s 48-strong team for the world championships in London next month, returning to the track where she won the Olympic gold medal for the 100-meter hurdles in 2012.
Pearson has struggled with injuries in the last two seasons and was ruled out of the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro last year. The 30-year-old Pearson won the world title in 2011 and was runner-up in 2013. She won the silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Warming up for the world championships, which start Aug. 4, Pearson ran 12.48 seconds her fastest time since 2012 to place second to world-record holder Kendra Harrison at the Diamond League meet in London earlier this month.
Also featuring in Australia’s squad are veteran race walker Jared Tallent and long jumper Fabrice Lapierre, who each won silver medals at the last world championships in Beijing in 2015.
