The State Government has resolved to roll out a new scheme, supplying modern tools, for artisans from backward classes and most backward classes in the State.
The Government has decided to organise exhibitions of modern tools related to washermen and Nayee Brahmin (barber) communities in the city on July 31 and August 8. The exhibitions would be followed by supply of tools to the members of these communities tentatively on August 15, coinciding with the Independence Day.
The BC Welfare department is evolving plans in this direction in association with the Finance department and the guidelines for the scheme would be issued after taking the consent of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Ministers Jogu Ramanna (BC Welfare) and Eatala Rajender (Finance) said.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, the Ministers said the TRS Government had launched a spree of programmes for the welfare of BCs and MBCs ever since it took over the reins in the State. These communities were hitherto treated as “vote banks” by the previous Governments and were not provided any benefits.
Mr. Ramanna said the enhanced budgetary allocation which crossed Rs. 5,000 crore for these communities and setting up residential schools on par with the corporate institutions were among several initiatives launched for the Government for the empowerment of these sections which were neglected for long.
Mr. Rajender said the Government was considering providing financial assistance to MBCs directly and steps had been taken to provide children of these MBC communities unconditional admission into the residential schools. The Finance department on its part had been playing a proactive role in making budgetary provisions for BCs and MBCs who constitute more than 50 per cent of the population.
