Delegation visits Delhi for second time in two weeks, seeking exemption for T.N.

A delegation of Ministers along with Deputy Lok Sabha Speaker M. Thambi Durai that called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week seeking exemption for Tamil Nadu from the purview of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), called on Union Ministers Arun Jaitley and Rajnath Singh in the national capital over the same plea on Monday.

‘Warm assurance’

The delegation comprising Ministers D. Jayakumar, P. Thangamani, C.Ve. Shanmugam, C. Vijaya Baskar, K.P. Anbalagan and S.P. Velumani, besides Mr. Thambi Durai, first called on Union Minister of State Pon. Radhakrishnan in Delhi, who assured the delegation that he too would exert pressure for granting exemption for Tamil Nadu. Later, the delegation, along with Mr. Radhakrishnan, called on Mr. Singh and Mr. Jaitley separately with their demand to exempt Tamil Nadu from the ambit of NEET. An official release from the State government stated that Mr. Singh has “warmly assured [the delegation] that he would consider the plea favourably.”

Meanwhile, a delegation from AIADMK Puratchi Thalaivi Amma led by former CM O. Panneerselvam called on the Prime Minister in Delhi. A release from the party stated that Mr. Panneerselvam too urged Mr. Modi to exempt Tamil Nadu from NEET.
