FRC mandated fee for all colleges

As per an order of the Supreme Court on August 9, all MBBS/BDS seats in the States shall be filled from the NEET rank list and as per a centralised allotment done by the State government.

A press note on Tuesday said the allotment to all MBBS/BDS seats in Kerala would, consequently, be done by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE).

The order of the Fee Regulatory Committee dated July 13 has been approved by the High Court in its order on July 17. The court has also clarified that any future changes in the fee structure effected by the committee will be binding on the candidates.

The committee has mandated that the fee in 85% of the seats in private self-financing medical colleges shall be ₹5 lakh and ₹20 lakh for the 15% NRI quota seats. For BDS courses, the committee has fixed the fee for 85% of seats at ₹2.9 lakh and ₹6 lakh for the rest 15% NRI quota seats.

Up to ₹5 lakh from the fee charged for the NRI quota in medical colleges shall be kept apart for providing scholarships to those in the BPL category.

The Academy of Medical Sciences, Pariyaram, and the Pariyaram Dental College, Kannur, have entered into an agreement with the government to continue the previous year’s fees.

Similarly, MES Medical College, Perinthalmanna, and Sam Somervell CSI medical college, Karakkonam, have entered into an agreement with the State government for continuing with the previous year’s fee. It is expected that more self-financing colleges will come forward to sign a fee pact with the government.

Those who receive allotments in the second round of allotment should remit the entire fee applicable to the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations before the last date. In the spot admissions that would follow, candidates should remit the entire fee applicable to the CEE at the venue itself, the press note added.
