A day after the rift over moving resolutions in the Legislative Council led to a rift between the Congress and NCP, the Opposition parties announced a truce on Monday. Both parties decided to present a united front in the Assembly’s monsoon session at a meeting on Monday.
“On August 5, discussions on contribution to parliamentary democracy by Sharad Pawar and Ganpatrao Deshmukh will be held. Discussion on Indira Gandhi’s contribution will be held on August 9,” said former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. He added the Opposition will be asking tough questions on Tuesday on the loan waiver scheme.
The clash led to embarrassment for the Opposition, with even Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis saying they should first sort of their differences.
Following the truce, it was decided to corner the State government over the loan waiver scheme. “We want the government to specify the exact number of scheme beneficiaries. It should say how many farmers were given ₹10,000 for the kharif season. The Opposition has a right to know how many District Central Cooperative Banks extended loans to farmers,” said NCP leader and former Deputy CM Ajit Pawar.
