Cong plans protest week against GST

more-in

The Delhi unit of the Congress will be protesting against the Centre’s implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) through a week of demonstrations across 42 markets in the Capital starting July 29, the party said on Monday.

Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken said that the party would intensify its protests against what it termed the “wrong” implementation of GST, which had affected small and medium-sized traders as well as the public.

He reiterated the Congress’ stand that the BJP government’s version of GST had adversely impacted traders and consumers, with high tax slabs increasing the burden on the general public.

Mr. Maken said that the new tax regime had made hospital care, education and construction more expensive. Protests will be held at Loni Road’s timber market, Gandhi Nagar’s cloth market and Lajpat Nagar Central Market.
