The Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) is expected to see more than 60,000 student footballers from over 3,500 schools and colleges across 30 Indian cities participate this year, it was announced on Tuesday.
The inaugural RFYS football competition in four different categories last year elicited robust participation from schools and colleges in the eight cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Pune, Chennai, Kochi, Mumbai and Goa where it was held. This year, Bengaluru, Jamshedpur, Hyderabad, Kozhikode, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Shillong, Aizawl and Imphal have been added to make it a truly pan-India event, according to a release.
RFYS 2017-18 will kick-off in mid-August while the grand finale is expected to be held in January 2018, making it one of the longest and biggest campus football programmes in India.
RFYS will also organise a separate athletics meet in Chandigarh, Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai and Kochi.
A total of 11 disciplines of Track & Field will be part of the meet, with the city winners qualifying for the Nationals.
