Iran confiscates 30 horses, mules carrying weapons

Iran's semi-official Tasnim agency is reporting that the country's border guards have confiscated 30 horses and mules that were carrying weapons and ammunition.

The Monday report quotes the border guards' chief, Gen. Qassim Rezai, as saying the unaccompanied animals and the consignment were confiscated in the northwest of the country. He did not elaborate.

The mountainous remote area in northwest is predominantly Kurdish and close to both Iraq and Turkey's borders. It's the scene of occasional clashes between Iranian forces and militant Kurdish separatists and IS-linked fighters.

Earlier on Friday said its elite Revolutionary Guard forces killed three terrorists, wounded four others and detained one in a clash there. A Guard member was killed and another wounded in the late Thursday clash.
