Even as the East Godavari district administration swung into action to protect the ailing cows at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), three more cows died, taking the toll to 34 on Sunday.
Collector Kartikeya Misra ordered the cancellation of the governing body of the society and appointed an ad hoc committee with officials drawn from various departments to take care of the animals.
Mr. Misra asked the officials to take steps to transport 200 cows to Chendurthi and another 80 to Rampachodavaram from the congested premises.
He said cattle sheds would be built at Chendurthi on the Endowments Department land. The Electricity Department would provide lighting and the Rural Water Supply Department drinking water for the cattle.
He said 150 acres of adjacent land, which also belonged to the Endowments Department, would be useful for the cattle grazing.
He further said that at the ITDA, Rampachodavaram, accommodation was identified for 80 head of cattle, where fodder and water would be provided for them.
Medical care
Enquiring about the health of the animals, Mr. Misra highlighted the need for providing medical care to the animals before shifting them. He advised the officials to commence shifting of the animals from Tuesday. The Kakinada civic body was taking care of SPCA sanitation, he said.
