GST is an "extremely tedious" process for traders said Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the former Chief Minister of Haryana, while addressing an award ceremony for traders at Karnal.
"We are not against GST, but we are opposing the flaws in the newly-introduced GST," said the ex-CM.
According to him, the BJP led government under the Manohar Lal Khattar regime in Haryana brought about a seven-tier tax structure under the pretext of a 'One Nation, One Tax' promise.
The two time Chief minister suggested that his Congress regime would have brought about a unified tax rate with a cap of 18%, if elected for a third term.
Hooda found the returns process as an area that contributed to the tediousness. Two returns a year instead of multiple ones could have meant simplicity and ease in doing business.
In Haryana, traders have also protested demanding that cloth and farm-related produce be off the GST ambit.
Hooda who has been holding Kisan Panchayats, pointed to twelve demands that the government should resolve for the trader community.
He persuaded the audience to join a "Veopari Mahapanchayat", in the event, the government did not accede to the demands.
