Party takes a serious view of attacks on Dalits of Nerella village

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has given ‘Chalo Sircilla’ call for July 31 in support of the families allegedly tortured by the police. Also, protest would be held in front of all the district Collectorates on July 26 on Government’s silence on the issue.

The decision was taken at the extended Executive Committee meeting of the Congress held at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday.

It was attended by TPCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy, CLP leader, K. Jana Reddy and senior leaders including Mallu Bhati Vikramarka, Shabbir Ali, Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Mallu Ravi, P. Sudhakar Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, Sabita Indra Reddy and Sircilla constituency leader K.K. Mahender Reddy.

Later, briefing the media, the TPCC president said the meeting took a serious view of the attacks on people from Scheduled Castes and BC communities of Nerella village and decided to expose the Government and the people involved in it. Mr. Reddy accused IT Minister K. T. Rama Rao of being silent on the third degree torture of innocent people by the police in his constituency and demanded his resignation.

‘Police brutality’

He said the party had decided to organise protest across Telangana to condemn the ‘police brutality’ against Dalits who had held protests against sand mafia and illegal movement of vehicles in their villages. The protest in front of District Collectorates on July 26 would be followed by Chalo Sircilla on July 31.

Mr. Reddy said it was a shame that the police were threatening the victims with foisting brothel cases against their family members should they raise their voice or reveal the police torture.

He alleged that the police had the guts to give such bold threats as relatives of Mr. K.T. Rama Rao were involved in the sand mafia.
