A youth and his juvenile accomplice have been held for killing a 61-year-old man here, police said on Monday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police A.K. Singla said accused Pawan, 21, whose mother worked as a maid at deceased Madan Mohan's house, strangulated Madan to death as he did not like the deceased's "acquaintance" with his mother.
Singla said that Pawan and his 16-year-old juvenile accomplice had no criminal history and added that the victim was staying alone as his wife had passed away.
"The deceased had helped Pawan's family by giving cash and jewellery and even gave money to Pawan's father to buy an e-rickshaw. Pawan's friends started making fun of him by saying that 'he has got a second father now' and this angered him," Singla told IANS.
On Saturday, police received a telephone call that a foul smell was emanating from a flat on the third floor of a building in Bhajanpura of east Delhi. When police reached the flat, they found Mohan's body in the bedroom.
During investigation, police found that two boys were last seen leaving the flat and one of them was later identified as the son of the maid who worked at the deceased's place.
Police later arrested Pawan from Khajoori Chowk and his interrogation led to the apprehension of the juvenile.
"On Tuesday, Pawan along with his juvenile friend reached the house of the deceased at midnight and strangulated him with a cloth," Singla said.
