The Kerala High Court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to former State Police Chief T.P. Senkumar in a criminal case registered in connection with the alleged communal remarks he made in an interview to an online publication.
The court directed Mr. Senkumar to appear before the investigating officer within ten days. If he was arrested, he should be released on bail on executing a bond of ₹50,000 with two solvent sureties for the like sum, the court ordered.
Granting Mr. Senkumar anticipatory bail, the court observed that there was no need for custodial interrogation of the petitioner.
The order came on an anticipatory bail filed by the former State Police Chief. The case had been registered by the cyber crime police station in Thiruvananthapuram under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (for promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion) following the publication of his controversial remarks on the Muslim population growth in the State in the publication.
