3 convicted for caste abuse in Madikeri

The Principal District and Sessions Court has convicted three persons involved in a case related to caste abuse.
The convicts are Chimmanamada Poovaiah, Bollemada Subbaiah, and Bollimada Uthappa. They had abused the caste of one H R Ravi at Lakkunda in Kothooru village and had also assaulted him. The Kutta police had registered a complaint and filed a chargesheet in the court.
The court, after hearing the case, sentenced the trio to undergo four years of imprisonment under SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000. For injuring the victim, they were asked to undergo one year of additional imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 3,000.
For injuring head and leg, they were asked to undergo three years of imprisonment and fine of Rs 5,000.
Judge R K G M M Mahaswamiji has ordered to pay Rs 50,000 collected as fine to the injured.
Another case
In a separate incident, the court convicted three persons in connection with caste abuse and attempt to sexually assault a woman.
The accused are H S Ganesh, H S Keshav, H S Devaraj and Jagadeesh. Jagadeesh was sentenced to four years of imprisonment under SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and was slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 while Ganesh, Keshav and Devaraj were convicted for supporting the accused and were sentenced to one year of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5,000.
For attempting to sexually assault a woman, Ganesh and Devaraj were asked to undergo two years of imrpisonment and pay a fine of Rs 25,000.
