Director-General of Police N. Sambasiva Rao on Saturday said stern action would be taken against anyone, no mater what their position was, if they were found indulging in illegal activities.
He was reacting to reports on the alleged involvement of police officials and other prominent persons in drugs-related activities.
Addressing the media during his visit to Sri Padmavathi Devi temple at Tiruchanur, Mr. Rao said they had earlier suspended several officials and would not hesitate to initiate similar action again if they were proven guilty.
“Some police officials have forgotten their duty and are succumbing to temptations such as drug trafficking. Such issues will be dealt with sternly as nothing would justify the act,” he asserted.
Mr. Rao also said they would soon set up a special task force with the Excise Department to tackle the menace of drugs and urged people to relay any information to it. Besides this, Mr. Rao said plans were afoot to develop police stations across the State as ‘Model Police Stations’.

Meanwhile, former CBI Joint Director V.V. Lakshmi Narayana maintained that introducing students to a planned lifestyle since childhood would keep them away from bad habits.
Speaking during the valedictory of the three-day ‘Youth empowerment’ programme organised by the Sri Venkateswara University and Academy of Fine Arts, Mr. Lakshmi Narayana urged the parents to observe the behaviour of their children and emphasised the need for rekindling the inspiration to serve one’s country.
