Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi has come out with a suggestion for the to adopt an ordinance to ensure 50 per cent quota for local students in MBBS courses at private medical colleges here.

She said in a WhatsApp message, which was circulated to media persons tonight, that the Assembly "ought to pass an ordinance in this regard".

Bedi promised that she would give her "full support" if the Assembly brings an ordinance to ensure the introduction of 50 per cent quota in MBBS courses at private medical colleges for the benefit of students from the Union Territory.

The former IPS officer wanted to know "why they (the government) are not doing this. I shall fully support them if an ordinance is brought in for 50 per cent quota in MBBS courses for local students".

"When they have all the time for various other issues, why should they not do this as it would... Benefit students from Puducherry," she said.
