Harmanpreet Kaur made headlines after her breathtaking unbeaten 171 against Australia in the 2017 ICC Women's World Cup semi-final. Although her knock baffled many, former India women's captain Diana Edulji wasn't surprised.

Having spotted Kaur's talent very early, Edulji got her a job in Western Railway, with help from Sachin Tendulkar.

Edulji, a retired sports officer wanted Kaur to join the Mumbai based cricket team. Kaur, then 24, had already had an offer from Northern Railways and only a higher post could get her transferred to Mumbai.

"I told her, 'I will get you a higher post. She was getting a junior class in Northern Railway. I offered her a chief office superintendent post. Her application was later sent to Delhi, but was rejected by the president," the Edulji told a newspaper.

"That's when Tendulkar stepped in. I requested Sachin, who is a Member of Parliament, to write a letter to the Railway minister, forwarding the case of Harmanpreet Kaur."

Tendulkar's letter was enough to convince the higher authorities to get Kaur a offer from the Western Railway. From that moment, there was no looking back for Kaur who finally displayed her talent with a record knock that helped India book a place in the final of the World Cup.
