Security has been beefed up around the residence-cum-office of actor Kamal Haasan as the verbal duel between him and State government Ministers continue.
In the aftermath of Mr. Haasan accusing the AIADMK of corruption and alleging systemic failure, a war of words broke out between him and the Ministers, who have been issuing statements condemning the actor for making baseless allegations.
One of the Ministers even threatened the actor with dire consequences. In retaliation, the actor called upon people to send details of corruption to the Ministers at their official e-mail ids that are available on the government’s home page. Interestingly, the home page now has no details of the contact numbers or mail ids of the Ministers.
Amid the prevailing politically charged atmosphere, the city police decided to deploy a posse of police personnel outside Mr. Haasan’s house in Alwarpet. A couple of Hindu outfits had also planned a protest in front of his house against a television show hosted by him. Police personnel have been posted for round-the-clock security to prevent any untoward incident.
“As per the instructions of senior police officers, security has been increased in the entire area in the light of recent developments. Patrol vehicles have been deployed and iron barricades put up,” said a senior police officer.
So far, Mr. Haasan has not sought any police protection.
