Aimed at providing power consumers legal aid and assistance, the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has decided to set up a legal advisory cell.
A public notice has been issued seeking suggestions and objections of people in this regard, said a DERC official.
The power regulator intends to provide legal aid to its customers about electricity law and grievance redressal mechanism through the proposed advisory cell, he said.
DERC has proposed to have minimum of six lawyers in the cell to provide free legal advice to the consumers.
The move assumes significance as Delhi's power infrastructure is suffering for want of a legal awareness and proper grievance redressal system.
There are thousands of "pending" cases between the consumers and electricity companies in various courts of Delhi and many of them can be easily resolved with the help of the legal advisory cell, he added.
