Veteran Congress leader says no action was taken by govt. on HC order

DINDIGUL

A temple should be constructed for ‘Bharata Matha’ at Papparapatti village in Dharmapuri district immediately as per the direction of the High Court, said veteran Congress leader Kumari Ananthan.

Talking to media persons after taking part in the birth anniversary celebration of freedom fighter Subramania Siva at Batlagundu near here on Sunday, he said a land was bought for the temple long back and a demand for its construction was made with the government.

“When we tabled a proposal before former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, she issued an order in this connection. But the present government did not execute it,” he said.

After hearing a petition filed in this regard, the High Court ordered the government to either construct the temple on its own or allow the followers of Subramania Siva to construct it. But the government did not make any move on the order, he said.

The government should make an announcement in this connection by August 15. If it failed to do so, he would file a contempt petition in the court against the government, Mr. Ananthan said.

He also appealed to the Central and State governments to link rivers to solve drinking water crisis across the country.
