Woman’s plight: police contact Embassy

A day after the incident of woman from Vizag city, Praveena, reportedly being held captive and tortured in Saudi Arabia, came to light, the Special Branch Police Visakhapatnam passed the message to the Indian Embassy and the Ministry of Home Affairs after retrieving her passport details.

The police also formed a team and sent to Hyderabad to pick up Hyderabad-based agent Vasi Reddy, through who the woman is believed to have gone to Saudi Arabia, to work as domestic help.

According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) P.V. Ravi Kumar, the police had approached the External Affairs Ministry on Thursday night and officials concerned will further be contacting the embassy officials of Saudi Arabia.

The Special Branch police havetraced her husband, from who they have come to know Praveena had come in contact with the Hyderabad agent through one Vani.

“A special team has been sent to Hyderabad. We are putting efforts to trace out the woman soon,” Mr. Kumar said.
