Writersmelon, an online platform for upcoming writers, brings us closer to the literary world

Are you fascinated about writing stories? If yes then here is a great platform to create opportunities for all who call themselves a book lover. Priyanka Purkayastha a young enterprising women launches upcoming storytellers at WritersMelon, an online portal for short stories.

WritersMelon is a destination for books lovers, authors and bloggers. Jukebox, a compilation of 15 short stories by budding writers from across the country, is a venture by Writersmelon. The result of a nationwide writing competition called Melonade, Jukebox is the outcome of the competition’s fifth edition.

Seven years down the line, Writersmelon is a leading online community for thousands of bibliophiles. Jukebox was recently launched by bestselling author Preeti Shenoy along with a bunch of talented bloggers in an event recently at Atta Galatta. The event also saw authors like Avishek Basu Mallick and Sujata Rajpal who also play an active role in Writersmelon. Preeti comments that “The stories had me enthralled, mesmerised and spellbound.”

Priyanka is the winner of the Digital Women Awards and also a marketing professional. She came up with this idea of Writersmelon to encourage upcoming writers to come up with different short story genres like thriller, romance and comedy. “There should be a platform which just not talks about books, but also helps the discovery of books.” What is the biggest takeaway for book lovers? She replies: “Most of us today spend time on the internet, but we don’t read enough books nor read anything that is informative, entertaining or inspiring. We need something that is beyond academics and not shy away from expressing things that we really care about. It is important to articulate our thoughts and bring it out since writing is one of the most liberating experiences of life.” When asked if the platform helps connect books lovers and authors, she says: “The most important form of connection is through content that creates the community which we are trying to build up. This involves only the power of words and awesome books to connect with to bring out the soul of Writersmelon.”
