Poland's senate on Saturday approved the ruling and Justice (PiS) party's controversial Supreme reform bill, which has sparked protests in the country and warnings from the European Union (EU).

After more than 16 hours of debate, 55 senators voted in favour of the bill to 23 against and two abstentions, reports Efe news.

The bill forces the removal of all Supreme judges except those chosen by the justice minister and approved by the president.
