A 45-year-old municipal sweeper was shot at by his relative while he was on duty in north-west Delhi on Saturday. The accused was apprehended in the evening.

Jagdish, a native of Sonipat, was sweeping an area near Pushpanjali gate in outer Delhi when Sagar, the brother-in-law of the victim’s son, drove up to him on a bike, pulled out a pistol and shot at him.

While the accused managed to flee the spot, the victim was rushed to Mahavir Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

“The accused was apprehended by the Rohini district police. During interrogation, he has mentioned a family dispute that led to the attack,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) M. N. Tiwari.

The police have registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 27 of the Arms Act.
