Cab driver commits suicide

A 30-year-old cab driver committed suicide by hanging at his residence in Bhovi Colony in Basaveshwaranagar on Thursday.

The deceased, identified as Muniraju, was married to Lakshmi and the couple had one-year-old son.

According to the police, Muniraju was a chronic alcoholic and had stopped working for the past two months. The couple were having financial problems and had even not paid the rent for the past two months. To make ends meet, Lakshmi had started working as domestic helper.

On Thursday, Muniraju bought two bottles of liquor after Lakshmi went out to work. The police said it appears that he consumed the liquor and later hung himself.

The incident came to light when Lakshmi returned home. The Basaveshwaranagar police have taken up a case and are investigating to ascertain the reason behind his extreme step.
