Are probing death of four persons in boys’ hostel

CID sleuths visited Vidya Varidhi International School in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk of Tumakuru district recently to probe the case of alleged food poisoning in which four persons, including three students, lost their lives.

Former BJP MLA Kiran Kumar, who owns the school, confirmed that sleuths had visited their school as the government had handed over the inquiry to the CID on July 5.

He and his wife, Kavitha Kiran Kumar, who is the secretary of the school, were summoned to Bengaluru on July 17 in connection with the probe.

About the incident

Three residents of the boys' hostel of Vidya Varidhi International School allegedly died of food poisoning on March 9, 2017.

The deceased were Y. Shreyas, 8th standard student from Thimmanahalli in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk; Akanksh Pallakki, 10th standard student from Thimmanahalli in Chikkanayakanahalli; and Shantha Murthy, 10th standard student from Srirampura in Hosadurga taluk of Chitradurga district.

The fourth victim was watchman Ramesh who was in the Intensive Care Unit of the Tumakuru district government hospital for a few days before he lost his life.

The school management had not taken permission to run a hostel for boys.
