The Supreme Court on Friday sought a response from the Gujarat government on a plea alleging that two police officers, accused in separate encounter cases, have been reinducted after superannuation.

A bench of Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud issued notices to the state government, N K Amin and Tarun Barot on the petition challenging their reinduction as superintendent of police at Tapi district in Gujarat and deputy superintendent of police in the railways, respectively, on a contractual basis.

Former IPS officer Rahul Sharma challenged the Gujarat High Court’s January 25 order, declining to interfere in the matter. Sharma’s counsel I H Sajjad contended that the state government reinducted the officers in violation of the rules.
