Think ‘weddings’, and the first thing that comes to your mind is the bride — her clothes, accessories, wedding makeup and hair. And while professionals are hired for the actual functions, every bride needs her own arsenal of products to add that bridal glow. Let’s be honest here, with all the stress of the wedding, very few brides actually wake up with that ‘glow’ . And between various relatives visiting and the many photo-ops, they will need to keep their game face on even post-ceremony. So treat that as an excuse to try some products that can help you fake the glow.
The skin
A lot of brides get treatments done before the wedding, and if you happen to be someone who has facials regularly, then go right ahead. If not, I would point you towards Korean Sheet Masks. Personally, I love the Etude House Eye masks and the Therapy Air Masks (especially the Hyaluronic Acid Mask for plump and hydrated skin) as well as The Face Shops Solution range of sheet masks (available on nykaa.com). You are likely to find a sheet mask for every skin concern, and they’re super easy to use the night before a big event without causing any issues. They’re gentle and almost always effective.
The base
The fastest way to inject some glow and bounce into your skin is a primer. Australian brand Becca’s Backlight Priming Filter and First Light Priming Filter are both great ways to give your face a sheen without it looking shiny or oily. Every bride must own a waterproof foundation, and my personal favorite is the Makeup Atlier Paris Waterproof Liquid Foundation (available on beautylish.com ) that sets into a demi matte finish with medium to full coverage. Depending on what tools you use it with, it can be sheered out or coverage can be built up. Glossier’s Stretch Concealer is a wonderfully moisturising formula perfect for the delicate skin of the undereye. However, it is notoriously difficult to get hold of, unless you have someone visiting or living in NYC.
The eyes
Kiko Milano makes some of the best eye shadow pencils on the market, in my opinion. They are creamy, easy to blend and set in place without budging. They have a large variety of colours and the pigmentation is exceptional.
The lips
French makeup artist Terry de Gunzberg’s make up line, By Terry, makes some of the most luxurious products in the market. But her Baume De Rose (available on Cult Beauty) is the most decadent lip balm you could want to own. It’s moisturising without being sticky, smells wonderful and hydrates your lips like no other. If you invest in one thing for your bridal makeup bag, let it be this product.
The fragrance
And finally, if you happen to be in London around this time, Jo Malone London does a fragrance fitting where they combine your favourite fragrances to make you a signature one. If not, both Blackberry and Bay, and Peony and Blush Suede are wonderfully fresh, long-lasting fragrances.
Your wedding is a special time, but just like it’s more about the marriage than the wedding, remember that your makeup isn’t about hype or popularity, it’s about what works for you and your skin.
