A 34-year-old mentally challenged woman after treatment at the Hospital for Mentally Ill here was restored to her parents on Wednesday.
After she was sent to the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) for legal assistance, Secretary of DLSA and Senior Civil Judge S. Damodara Rao directed officials of the Women Welfare and Child Development Department to provide shelter to her until she was restored to her parents. She was sent to the “Swadhar Home” at Pendurti on June 29.
The DLSA secretary contacted his counterpart at Berhampur to trace the woman’s parents so as to hand her over to them.
District Judge P V Jyotirmayi complimented the officials for reuniting the woman with her parents. Advocate and president of the Forum of Legal Professionals Kuppili Muralidhar said public should take legal assistance in helping victims of societal neglect and harassment.
