Residents and motorists have requested the Chennai Traffic Police to ensure the defunct traffic signals at the intersection of Five Furlong Road, Race Course Road and Chakrapani Street, Guindy, are repaired. They have also sought the deployment of traffic police personnel at the junction.

In the absence of a signal, motorists coming from Race Course Road and Anna Salai do not stop at the intersection while entering Five Furlong Road and Chakrapani Street.

Similarly, motorists coming from Five Furlong Road take a free left turn towards Chakrapani Street to enter Race Course Road. It gets chaotic when motorists from the service lane of the flyover on Chakrapani Street take an U-turn to reach the other side of the lane.

“It is unfortunate that only a few motorists obey traffic rules and follow lane discipline. So, chances of fatal accidents occurring at the intersection are high. Moreover, pedestrians cross the busy intersection, unmindful of the approaching traffic. The chaos could be controlled to a major extent if the signal is repaired or if police personnel are deployed,” R. Srinivasan, a motorist, said. When contacted, a Chennai Traffic Police official promised that necessary steps would be taken to solve the problem.
