NHRC seeks action against UTP torture in Balasore jail

Disposing of a filed by an undertrial prisoner's father, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the IG Prison to take proper action to redress the petitioner's grievance.

The undertrial prisoner's father in his had alleged that his son was being deprived of proper medical treatment.


He had also mentioned that his son was suffering from multiple ailments.

The undertrial is currently lodged in Balasore district jail.

The passed the order yesterday and asked the IG Prison to inform the petitioner about the action taken within eight weeks.

"What has complicated my son's health condition is perpetual mental harassment and unbearable physical torture inside the jail. The jail authorities are hand-in-gloves with some people outside the jail to make my son suffer every day," the said.

"My son had brought these issues to the notice of the The had asked for a report from the jail. No action has been taken so far," the said.
