Minister for Food and Civil supplies P. Thilothaman has said that 1,400 Onam markets (Onachanda) would be opened in the State this season with a view to controlling prices of essential goods effectively.
He told reporters here on Friday that the State had entered into an agreement with Andhra Pradesh on Thursday for exchange of food materials between the States.
No middlemen
“With food supplies directly sourced from farmers in Andhra Pradesh, there will not be any middlemen. This will help us supply all articles at reduced prices,” the Minister said.
The deal was not limited to the Onam season, and would continue for a while, he added.
