A slice of history

Conceptualised by the British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, Rashtrapati Bhavan was built for the first Viceroy of India, Lord Irwin, who moved into Rashtrapati Bhavan in 1929.

C. Rajagopalachari, the first Indian Governor-General, was the first Indian to reside at the Government House, as it was then called.
