Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is planning to flag off the metro train operations in the Palarivattom-Maharaja’s College Ground stretch by the first week of October.
Addressing a press conference at the KMRL office on Wednesday, Managing Director Elias George said the plan was to launch it before the start of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in the city in October.
Mr. George was excited about the response to metro operations in the first month, and said that there was ‘good traffic.” He said the Kochi metro had logged about 96,000 passengers during holidays and maintained an average traffic of close to 30,000, which was high compared to the response to Chennai metro during its initial months. It was unprecedented traffic for such a short stretch, he said.
