The Telangana government has issued guidelines on the weight of school bags corresponding to the classes to ensure that the burden on students is reduced. It also scrapped homework for students till Class V.

The orders, issued on Tuesday, will be binding on all schools, including private institutions. As per the school education department’s order, the bags can weigh a maximum of 1.5 kg for Class I and II students, 2-3 kg for Class III to V, 4 kg for Class VI and VII, 4.5 kg for Class VIII and IX and 5 kg for Class X.

It is advised that the bags have belts wide enough to save the students from drudgery. Parents are asked to give their wards scientifically designed bags.
