A 46-year-old wrestling coach has been arrested for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl on July 9.

The girl, who has said that she is a national-level kabaddi player, had approached the police with her complaint on Monday.

Naresh Dahiya, who runs an akhada in north Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy, was arrested with the help of technical surveillance, confirmed a senior police officer. Sources said that two more arrests have been made in the case.

Despite repeated attempts to contact him, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere remained unavailable to comment.

The victim was produced before the magistrate to record her statement under Section 164 of Criminal Procedure Code on Wednesday.

‘Meal was spiked’

The girl told the police that she couldn’t recall the events of July 9 as she was sedated. She told the police that she was picked up from near her residence north Delhi and was taken to an accommodation in Rohini where the accused spiked her meal.

The next day, on July 10, she was threatened to not complain to anyone and was then dropped off at a bus stand.

Initially, the victim was too scared to tell her kin but finally mustered the courage to approach the police on Monday. A medical exam was conducted at Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital.

Naresh is a well-known coach in the wrestling fraternity with extensive experience in training wrestlers at the junior level.
