Police add stricter provision to case

The Delhi Police have added the stricter provision of culpable homicide (not amounting to murder) in connection with the fatal accident triggered due to a mob chase and the unsuccessful escape bid by a BSES team.

Car chased

BSES engineer Abhimanyu Singh was killed and four others injured after their car, allegedly being chased by residents of a south Delhi village where they had been gone to check a “large scale power theft”, hit a tree on Monday.

The injured persons included his colleagues Bhim Singh (27) Yogender (25) and Saurakh (24), and car driver Wasim.

Though the police are yet to make an arrest in connection with the case, they have questioned some persons.

“We have added Section 304 [culpable homicide not amounting to murder] of the Indian Penal Code to the case. This is in light of the allegations made by BSES but we are still trying to ascertain the sequence of events,” said a police officer.

On Tuesday, the police registered an FIR under Section 304A (causing death due to negligence).

Two men identified

The police have identified two men allegedly involved in threatening the driver. One of the accused has been identified as Fauzi.
