The tax in its current form has hit small businesses as well as the public: Maken

Accusing the Centre of “unleashing the GST monster” on the country, Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken on Tuesday led a protest by party workers and traders against the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) from July 1.

Earlier version

During the protest, the Delhi Congress workers hit out against the BJP government over its version of the GST, which had been proposed by the erstwhile Congress-led government.

The Delhi Congress president said the GST in its current form had hit small businesses as well as the public.

Higher tax rates

The Congress had opposed the higher tax rates in the GST regime introduced by the Bharatiya Janata Party government.

Shouting slogans and carrying placards against the government, the Congress workers marched from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament, but were stopped halfway by police barricades.
