Block the entrance of Zone 3 office

In a bid to draw attention to their water woes, over 200 residents of Anuppanadi blocked the entrance of Zone 3 office of the Madurai Corporation on Chairman Muthuramaiyer Road on Tuesday. The Corporation Commissioner, S. Aneesh Sekhar, who was hearing public grievances at the office, alighted from his vehicle to hear their grievance after the meeting got over.

The residents of ward 57 have been repeatedly complaining about absence of water supply in their area. They claimed that three public toilets remained closed for want of water. The Commissioner assured the residents that he would look into their problem and inspect the ward soon.

A.C. Rathinapandian, a resident, said that water was provided only when residents staged a protest. Tuesday’s protest was led by S. Ganesan, former councillor.

The Corporation regularly holds grievance meetings at zonal level on water problems, underground drainage system, property tax and other civic issues. The next meeting is to be held at 10.30 a.m. in the office of Zone 4 on West Marret Street on July 25.
