Press Trust of India  |  New Delhi

Taking strong note of the slow pace of road construction in naxal-affected rural areas, a parliamentary panel has "deplored" the "casual attitude" of the rural development department and asked it to expedite pending work.

In its report, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Rural Development said it had raised the issue of very slow progress of work in Left-Wing extremism (LWE) districts, and urged the department to augment the execution capacity.

The committee had expressed concerns about mainly 9 states -- Assam, Bihar, Uttarakhand, and where a large number of works were in hand.

"The committee deplores the casual attitude of the department with regard to their recommendation and urges the to expedite the completion of pending work in the LWE districts," the report added.

The department of rural development in their reply have not mentioned anything about the enhancement of execution capacity in these states and the status of work, especially in LWE districts of the country.
