Various organisations took out a march to Podanur Railway Station on Tuesday to press demand for more trains to southern districts via Pollachi station.

Members of farmers associations, the Anti-corruption Movement, Citizen's Voice Club, and Retired Police Officers' Association participated in the march.

In a memorandum submitted to the Station Master, they sought recommencement of trains to southern districts through Pollachi station.

The farmers wanted more trains connecting Ottanchathiram, Pollachi, and Kinathukadavu for easy transport of agricultural produces. Farmers who rode bullock carts to the station wanted permission to operate the animal pulled carts through the track as the renewed line brought no good for them.

The joint forum said that the passenger train allotted between Pollachi-Coimbatore is not of much use to passengers as it operates during odd hours. They also alleged that two stone quarries operating close to the track at Chettipalayam are posing safety concerns.
