Gandhi files nomination for Vice President

Opposition candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi on Tuesday filed his nomination papers for the Vice Presidential

Gandhi, a former West Bengal Governor and Mahatma Gandhi's grandson, is pitched against NDA candidate M. Venkaiah Naidu.

Gandhi's name was proposed by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President and CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechuri.

Last week, 18 opposition parties including the Congress, Trinamool Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Nationalist Congress Party, DMK and the Left declared Gandhi their candidate for the August 5 Vice Presidential battle.
